He is not this hunched stack of awkward limbs, crowned by shaggy black hair. He is not this sugar-addicted, wide-eyed <i>freak</i> who says too little in too many words and never sleeps. He is not this earnest, do-gooder investigator, forever devoted to upholding the archaic, useless laws of mankind.<br /><br />L has never been sure what he <i>is</i>, but he knows what he <i>should be</i> the night he meets Yagami Light. And when Light stretches out his hand and L takes it, and Light says something pleasant and polite, L thinks-- he <i>knows</i>--<br /><br />L thinks, '<i>I should have been Kira</i>.'
